Named Maryland’s Top 100 Women: Martha James-Hassan

Dr. Martha James-Hassan (BS-Kinesiology, ’93) was named to the Daily Record’s Top 100 Women in Maryland for 2020. Dr. James is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education and Urban Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD. Additionally, she serves the community as the Policy Committee Chair for the Baltimore City Board of School Commissioners; as President of the Maryland Association of Boards of Education; as the Policy Chair for the Council of Urban Boards of Education, a division of the National School Boards Association; and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Council of Great City Schools. Dr. James’ research agenda includes inquiry into best practices for cultural fluency, behavior management, leadership development, and professional learning. She is a wife, mother, and in 2009 became an ironman by completing the 140.6 mile course in 13 hours, 9 minutes, and 31 seconds.
