Donny Sandler: Milwaukee Businessman and Raconteur

Donald “Donny” Sandler ’57, a pillar of Milwaukee’s midcentury community, died peacefully at home in Scottsdale on March 10. He was 90.

Born in Cleveland, Donny attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison on a football scholarship, graduating in 1957. A member of Pi Lambda Phi, he forged lifelong bonds with a close-knit circle of friends, who became leaders in industry and sports.

Donny built a successful career with Campus Clothing and later owned Anton’s, a men’s clothing store, as well as the John Glasspiegel Co. In retirement, he enjoyed the Arizona sunshine, the golf course, and the poker table.

Renowned for his comedic timing and a vast repertoire of jokes, Donny was the “life of the party.” He was a volunteer for the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, a longtime member of Congregation Sinai, and a Little League coach.

He is survived by his children: Greg (Sheilah) Sandler, Peggy Moran, and Andrea (Scott) Block; a stepson, Jon Rimmerman; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by his second wife, Patricia, and her daughter, Stacey Rimmerman.
