College isn’t all fun and games, but it should include them. That idea became especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic, when students were away from campus. To bring people together, the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Games Committee started hosting virtual game nights. Once a week, students logged on to play, joke around, and take a break from studying through friendly competition. When students returned to campus in August 2020, the tradition didn’t fade; it leveled up. Now, every Sunday in Union South’s the Sett, students can choose from a collection of more than 100 board, video, and even VR games. From quick favorites like Sorry! to more complex group games that turn strangers into teammates, the original spirit of game night is still in play.
