Quite a few UW–Madison alumni feel the urge to see “Buckingham U. Badger” printed in Lucida Calligraphy on an invitation envelope. They believe he’ll make their wedding complete, and frequently, he accepts those invitations. According to Josette Jaucian ’97 (whose official title is Director of the Spirit Squad and unofficial title is Bucky’s Parole Officer), Bucky attended 35 weddings in 2025. If that doesn’t seem like a lot to you, remember that most weddings take place on weekends. Bucky also spends 12 Saturdays each year at football games and bunches of other days — weekdays and weekends — attending basketball and hockey games. All that activity will help him work off the 24,500 calories of 35 slices of three-tier cake, but it doesn’t leave much recovery time. Still, if you feel your nuptials won’t be complete without a six-foot-tall mustelid, you can invite Bucky, too. Just keep in mind that you’ll have to book him at least a month in advance, and he costs $400 for the first hour, $150 for each hour after that. And before you invite him, ask yourself if you’re really committed to your betrothed. There are no refunds. Photo by
