Pfankuch Named National Agricultural Reporter of the Year Two Straight Years
- Jun. 04, 2021

In April, Bart Pfankuch, a 1990 UW journalism graduate, was named co-winner of the Glenn Cunningham Agriculture Journalist of the Year Award from the North American Agricultural Journalists Association. Pfankuch also won the award solo in 2020, making him the first back-to-back winner in the 51-year history of the award. Pfankuch, who is content director of the nonprofit, public-service journalism organization South Dakota News Watch, was feted for 2020 coverage of COVID-19 outbreaks in meat-packing plants and for an expansive 2019 investigation into the growth of concentrated animal feeding operations in South Dakota. Pfankuch lives near Rapid City, South Dakota, with his wife, Dawn Remsing, also a 1990 UW graduate, who owns and operates Big Dog Publishing, a drama publishing company.
