New Winery to Open in Mineral Point: Erin Rasmussen
After graduation, Erin Rasmussen ’05 translated her enjoyment of seasonal produce and handcrafted cheese into a passion for fermentation and wine. Rasmussen moved to Napa Valley in 2008 to pursue a winemaking career and completed her graduate studies in New Zealand in 2012. After working for industry leaders such as Dan Petroski (Larkmead) and Gina Gallo (Gallo of Sonoma), she returned to Wisconsin in 2018 and founded her innovative wine brand, American Wine Project (AWP), to explore the complexities of cold-climate hybrid grapes. AWP wines have received praise in national wine magazines such as Wine Enthusiast and Wine and Spirits. The winery is located in historic Mineral Point, and a tasting room and one-acre garden are slated to open in June 2021.
