Lucylle Armentano Recognized for Service at Yale University

Lucylle (Alexandra Hansen) Armentano, class of 2012, was awarded the prestigious Jane Olejarczyk Service Award from the Psychology department at Yale University while obtaining campuswide recognition for her leadership as chair of the Graduate Student Assembly.

Lucy is widely respected for her commitment to the GSA, the student government body at Yale that represents 2500+ graduate students and advocates for their interests. In her role, Lucy served as part of the Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences’ Executive Committee, which advises the Dean on policy and procedure. She also represented graduate students in meetings with Yale’s President and Provost, and in 2019 she led the Graduate Student Assembly team that met with Yale’s Board of Trustees. Lucy has secured important gains for graduate students, including the expansion of a Dean’s Emergency Fund to assist vulnerable students and those facing unexpected hardship. At the start of her tenure, she launched a year-long, graduate school-wide Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiative, which involved students, faculty, and administrators in a conversation about the meaning and value of diversity in graduate education. Additionally, she represented Yale at the Connecticut State Legislature’s deliberations on the state’s U-Pass program in February 2020. Toward the end of her tenure, Lucy led the GSA’s response to the COVID-19 crisis. Her negotiations with Yale’s administration were instrumental in securing a one-year funding extension for currently enrolled graduate students who have been affected by the pandemic.

At the department level, Lucy has twice organized interviews with prospective students, served on the Institutional Review Board, and advocated for graduate students on a committee designing a new workspace for the department.

She carried out this impactful work while continuing her PhD in Psychology, presenting research results at the Conference of the American Psychology-Law Society, preparing papers for forthcoming publication, and raising a future leader: her daughter Eleanor, soon to be two.
