Federal Defender Services of Wisconsin, Inc. (FDSW) announced today the hiring of its new executive director, Craig W. Albee. Albee has been with FDSW for five years, previously serving as its senior trial lawyer. He has more than 25 years of experience in criminal defense.

“We’re thrilled to have Craig as our new executive director,” said Dean Strang, FDSW board chair. “He brings great talent and determination to the role of Federal Defender. Craig also will inspire the entire firm, in its three offices, to meet his standards.”

In his new role as executive director, Albee will continue to represent clients, serve as the principal liaison with federal judges and federal criminal justice agencies, and supervise a staff of approximately 20 employees, including 11 attorneys. Albee will oversee each of FDSW’s offices, located in Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay. He also will oversee the appointment of private lawyers to represent indigent defendants whom FDSW lawyers do not represent. Albee replaces outgoing executive director Daniel W. Stiller.

“We have an outstanding and committed group of lawyers at FDSW,” said Albee. “I am looking forward to continuing my work with them to provide a zealous defense for all our clients equal to any.”

Albee is a resident of Milwaukee and an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received both his Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctor degree (J.D.).
