Join UW alumni and friends at a Founders’ Day celebration hosted by the Wisconsin Alumni Association: Lakeland Chapter. The event includes a social hour and buffet, followed by a presentation by David Bartling ’13, co-owner of Bartling’s Manitowish Cranberry Company. David will share the company’s history and the innovations and adaptations that have improved their harvest and confirmed their commitment to preserving the land and water resources for future generations.
A cash bar will be available. Dinner will be a buffet featuring prime rib, fish, chicken, and a vegetarian option. Salad, dessert, and coffee will also be included. A gluten-free option is available upon request.

Four Generations, 80 Years: Bartling’s Manitowish Cranberry Company Celebrates Milestones
Established in 1946, Bartling’s Manitowish Cranberry Company currently includes 200 acres of cranberry beds, producing more than seven million pounds of fruit annually. Co-owners David and Steven Bartling continue to invest for future generations. Learn how these brothers are embracing technology and best management practices for sustainability to ensure that their family company and the environment it depends on will be around for generations to come.

David Bartling ’13 is the fourth-generation owner and operator of Bartling’s Manitowish Cranberry Company, located in Manitowish Waters. Following graduation from UW–Madison with a degree in biological systems engineering, he returned to his family’s company and began taking over operations in partnership with his brother Steven. David is a member of the Wisconsin Cranberry Board, elected to a three-year term in 2024. Bartling’s Manitowish Cranberry Company was also a finalist for the 2023 Wisconsin Leopold Conservation Award.
