Meet the Gubernatorial Candidates

On July 24, 2025, Governor Tony Evers ’73, MS’76, PhD’86 announced that he will not be running for reelection. Because Wisconsin is a battleground state, voters can anticipate highly competitive primaries for both the Democrats and Republicans. Following Evers’s announcement, several candidates announced their intention to run for the governor’s seat. Included below is preliminary information about these candidates, along with links to their websites.

Democrats

David Crowley is county executive of Milwaukee County. He previously worked for nonprofits and as an organizer for Public Allies. He worked on Russ Feingold’s campaign, was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2016, and was elected county executive in 2020. Learn more about David Crowley here.

Francesca Hong x’11 was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2020 and currently serves as the state representative for Assembly District 76. She attended UW–Madison and later left to pursue her former career as a chef. Learn more about Francesca Hong here.

Missy Hughes previously served as an executive at Organic Valley. In 2019, Governor Tony Evers appointed Hughes to be the secretary and chief executive officer of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. Brett Hulsey previously served on the Dane County Board of Supervisors and represented Middleton in the Wisconsin State Legislature from 2011 to 2015. He currently runs the consulting business Better Environmental Solutions. He holds degrees from Middlebury College and the University of Oklahoma. Learn more about Brett Hulsey here.

Sara Rodriguez has served as the 46th lieutenant governor of Wisconsin since 2023. She is also a registered nurse and a small business owner. Rodriguez previously served in the Wisconsin State Assembly for District 13. She has received degrees from Illinois Wesleyan University and Johns Hopkins University. Kelda Roys JD’04 is a state senator representing the Madison area. She is an attorney and small business owner. She was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 2008 and the Wisconsin State Senate in 2020. She received a bachelor’s degree from NYU and a JD from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Republicans

Josh Schoemann is the County Executive for Washington County. He was the first candidate to announce his campaign for Wisconsin Governor. He was previously the County Administrator and Administrative Coordinator in Washington County for six years. Schoemann was elected County Executive of Washington County in April of 2020 and reelected in April 2024. He was an enlistee of the National Guard and is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Tom Tiffany serves as the representative for Wisconsin’s Seventh Congressional District. He previously served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and Senate for the 12th District. Tiffany has been representing the Seventh District of Wisconsin in Washington, DC, since 2020. He graduated from UW–River Falls. Learn more about Tom Tiffany here.
