How to: Stop at the Top 

The UW Marching Band’s signature high step brings Badger flair to every performance. 

How does the UW Marching Band cross the field at Camp Randall? By stopping at the top, of course! This seemingly simple maneuver is the UW’s signature take on the high step, a hallmark of marching bands. Former UW band director Mike Leckrone introduced the UW’s unique approach to the high step when he arrived at the university in 1969, and it’s carried the band through every iconic performance ever since. Drum major Caleb Monge x’26 takes us back to band camp and breaks down the basics of stopping at the top.
