She earned her BA from the University of Wisconsin in 1949 and her MS in Education from USC in 1968. After starting her post-college life in Milwaukee, where she pursued her musical career and performed with local symphony and opera companies she lived, worked and studied music in Toronto in 1953 and Montreal where she had her musical debut with the Elgar Choir in 1956.
Ryle moved to Los Angeles in 1960. She taught elementary school and music until retiring in 1989. During this time she also was a regular usher at musical, theatrical and other performances throughout the LA area.
Ryle devoted much of her early adult life to music, especially opera. She trained at the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto and in Montreal with private tutors. She performed often with local symphony and opera companies.
Ryle moved to San Diego in 1990 to be near her older brother, Harold and sister-in-law, Sue. She made many friends through her volunteer ushering at the Poway Center for the Arts, Old Globe Theatre and the La Jolla Playhouse. She retired from active ushering as her eyesight declined but continued to maintain her friendships with many of her fellow volunteers.
