- Nov. 25, 2025
Michael Anderson ’05, MS’09, PhD’11 and Jie Liu MS’09, MS’11 celebrated 14 years of marriage in November 2025. They met in 2009 while working for different Wisconsin professors at CERN in the city of Meyrin, Switzerland. Michael was a research assistant for physics professors Sridhara Dasu and Wesley Smith, while Jie was a research assistant for engineering professor Mike Schulte. It was an exciting time to be working in those small CERN offices, contributing to the discovery of the Higgs boson. Michael’s name, along with the names of over three dozen Wisconsin faculty, staff, and students are on the CMS Higgs discovery paper published in 2012.
Michael and Jie were married on 11-11-11 and later had a beautiful daughter they named Meyrin.
