Patricia Patterson Haueter ’50, 1926–2025

Born in Los Angeles, CA in 1926, Pat grew up in Madison, WI, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1950 with a BS in physical education. She married UW alumnus Jack Haueter ’50 in 1951. After many years teaching and judging synchronized swimming, and raising three children, at age 62 she joined the Peace Corps and spent two years in Honduras focused on economic development through textile arts. She settled in Santa Fe, NM, traveling around the world working with the International Executive Service Corps, a nonprofit service group initiated in connection with USAID.
She cared deeply about the American ideals of democracy and opportunity for everyone, especially immigrants. She championed anyone seeking a better, freer life, willing to come together for the good of us all. Beauty in everything around her mattered, as though it was an expression of her belief in life as being all about what we share with one another.
With her deep connections to the Madison community, she liked to remind people that Little Street, in front of the Wisconsin Field House was not named for being so short, but rather was named after her uncle, football coach George Little.
