$250k Belk Grant for UW Alumna Exploring Teacher Burnout Prevention
- Sep. 12, 2025
I (Mary Cate Komoski) graduated with my PhD in educational psychology in 2020. I am now an assistant professor of human development and family science at East Carolina University in North Carolina. I was recently awarded a $250,000 grant from the Belk Foundation, ECU’s first grant from the foundation, to conduct a longitudinal study that will explore ways that undergraduate educator preparation programs can better prepare preservice teachers to navigate the emotional demands of the field. The overarching goal of the work is to help alleviate burnout among early childhood and elementary teachers.
