Johnny Kotz, an All-American basketball player, passed away in May 1999. Kotz was an integral part of the UW-Madison men’s basketball team and helped the UW earn its only NCAA championship in 1941. He earned the MVP title in 1942 and led his team as its captain in 1943. Johnny Kotz was inducted into the UW Athletics Hall of Fame in 1991.
