Day In the Life of a Flamingo

I suited up in my most flamboyant flamingo ensemble (okay, it might be my only one) and
headed to campus to spread the word about Fill the Hill. Here's how my day unfolded.

11:35 a.m.

I began in the Education Building, where I interrupted — I mean took — an education policy studies class. While I did learn a lot about developing equitable education policies, the chairs were a bit tight around my tail feathers. Alas, there is no policy about flamingos being educated, so I only stayed for a few.

12:05 p.m.

After class, I headed to my natural habitat: Bascom Hill. There I mixed and flamingled with some current students as they flocked to class.

12:18 p.m.

Seeing someone in an inflatable flamingo costume was a nice distraction for students as they climbed the hill in the heat, so I stopped to take some photos with my new flocks of friends. I did make a group of students late to class … but they have a selfie to prove it was for a good reason.

12:44 p.m.

Speaking of the heat, inflatable, plastic costumes are about as breathable as you’d think. Around this time is when the full effects of my outfit choice began to settle in. Luckily, some campus clubs saw my plight and intervened. Thanks for the popsicles, Greeks!

12:52 p.m.

With a treat in hand and my face shiny with what I’ll call a camera-ready glow, I caught the attention of a reporter and film crew from Estonian National Television. Apparently, giant flamingos aren’t as common an occurrence over there as we’d like them to be, but I hope we can change that.

1:07 p.m.

The potential of international superstardom went to my head, so I brought myself back to reality and had a quick dance break on Library Mall. If Estonia doesn’t make me a famous flamingo, I’ll have to do it myself!

1:13 pm

A visit to campus wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Alumni Park! However, I would like to see more avian representation — Bucky has a whole statue!

1:23 p.m.

I heard some loud music coming from a house near the union, and as I was making my way over there, I ran into a familiar looking face in the grass along Lake Mendota! That’s not where a plastic flamingo belongs! So, I took it.

1:29 p.m.

I stopped by One Alumni Place to show off my new look to my colleagues. (The A/C was also much appreciated.)

1:30 p.m.

OOPS! I accidentally interrupted a potential new employee’s interview, but hey, I think I helped prove that this is a fun place to work!

1:53 p.m.

I ended my day back on Bascom Hill, giving students a sneak peak of what they can expect when the full flock of pink, plastic friends return during this years Fill the Hill!
