Join us for Wisconsin Idea Spotlight: Frank Lloyd Wright in the 21st Century and discover how a UW–Madison alumnus, and one of America’s most influential architects, continues to shape the way we design and live. Enjoy a preprogram reception with refreshments before hearing from Anna Andrzejewski, the Frank Lloyd Wright Professor of Modern American Architecture at UW–Madison. Her illustrated lecture will explore how Wright x1890’s Wisconsin roots shaped his work and why his ideas about nature, technology, and community are still relevant in an age of AI and climate change. An audience Q & A session will follow the program.

About the Speaker

Anna Andrzejewski is the Frank Lloyd Wright Professor of Modern American Architecture in the Department of Art History, where she has been a member of the faculty since 2000. A former director of the Center for Culture, History, and Environment, she is also an affiliate of UW–Madison’s Department of Geography, Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture, and Nancy M. Bruce Center for Design and Material Culture.
Andrzejewski’s research focuses on the history of post–World War II suburban buildings and real estate development. She has completed a book on the postwar building industry (with an emphasis on Madison-based builder and Wright protégé, Marshall Erdman) and is currently working on an in-depth study of the cultural landscape of vacation and retirement communities built in South Florida between 1945 and 1970. Andrzejewski is also an award-winning educator, who teaches (among other things) a very popular course on Wright’s buildings that takes students into private homes in the Madison area. You can learn more about her in this dwell article.
