Join us for Made at the UW: Nursing in Action, where you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at the cutting-edge training happening at the UW–Madison School of Nursing. Take a guided tour of Signe Skott Cooper Hall, explore the in-house demo hospital wing equipped with simulation mannequins, and get hands-on experience performing skills in the Center for Technology-Enhanced Nursing. You’ll also hear lightning talks from faculty on timely topics such as strategies for wellness and artificial intelligence in health care. Then, cap off the day with a reception featuring hors d’oeuvres and remarks from Dean Linda Scott.

Speakers

Teri Pipe, PhD, RN is the Richard E. Sinaiko Professor in Health Care Leadership at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing and core faculty in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Healthy Minds. Pipe is Dean Emerita of the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University, where she served as Dean from 2011-2018 and as university-wide ASU Chief Well-Being Officer from 2017-2021. She was the Founding Director of ASU’s Center for Mindfulness, Compassion and Resilience. Prior to ASU, Pipe served as Mayo Clinic Arizona’s Director of Nursing Research and Innovation. She loves spending time in nature and exploring ways of bringing compassion and well-being more fully into our world. Pipe is an expert on well-being, with a focus on mindfulness and compassion. Her work focuses on implications of well-being within and beyond the healthcare and higher education sectors. Pipe is an expert on nursing leadership with a focus on interprofessionalism, bringing nurses together with physicians and other health professionals, businesspeople, and policy makers, to help redesign and improve well-being at individual, organizational, and societal levels. Her research interests include: well-being in professional and clinical populations, preventive and protective well-being strategies, and aging. She is a sought-after speaker on the topics of well-being, leadership, mindfulness, clinician workforce wellness, and compassion. Pipe earned her PhD in health policy and administration with a minor in gerontology from Pennsylvania State University, a master’s degree in nursing with an emphasis in gerontology from the University of Arizona, and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Iowa.

Ann Wieben PhD, RN, NI-BC’s overall research goal is to elevate the ability of nurses and other health professionals to access information, acquire knowledge and practice with wisdom and, by doing so, improve the health of individuals, families, and communities. In pursuit of this goal, Wieben uses mixed methods to examine multiple facets of the design, integration, and adoption of decision support systems into healthcare practice, with a current research focus on tools driven by Artificial Intelligence. Wieben is also interested in research related to the use of Artificial Intelligence in nursing education programs and the impact of these tools on the development of nurses’ critical thinking skills and cognitive load.
