University of Wisconsin Alumni of Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley - A Bascom Level Chapter

Finally Milwaukee comes to Philadelphia on a weekend! The chapter has purchased a block of 100 tickets for the Friday night, September 12 game. Tickets are $16 each and can be purchased by emailing Kristin at phillychapter@uwalumni.com. About 10 tickets remain. Don't wait to buy your tickets - it looks like this series will mean something for both teams!

Yes it's true, Barrister's has in fact changed owners and is now Cavanaugh's. Barrister's has treated our local alumni very well over the past couple of years and we would like to thank them for accomodating our group.

It's football season yet again and we will be watching in the same location, though the name has changed. Join us at Cavanaugh's Rittenhouse Square, 1823 Sansom St, Philadelphia, for EVERY Wisconsin football game this season.

We'll all be competing at the Fieldhouse (formerly Independence Brew Pub, 1150 Filbert St, Philadelphia) on Sept. 18.

Football Season Food Drive
Philadelphia Badgers have been challenged by Philadelphia Auburn Alums to collect the most food/money for Philabundance, the local food bank that distributes to the Delaware Valley and the rest of the USA (such as after Hurricane Katrina). During the Big Ten Football Season, we will be collecting money at football game watches to go purchase bags of food to be donated. (It's simply too difficult to collect bags and bags of food at a bar.) The money raised will go to purchase bags of food at the Giant Food Store in the Metroplex shopping center which will then be donated to the Preston and Steve Camp Out for Hunger, which will in turn go directly to Philabundance. Please stay tuned for details!

If you are interested in planning an event, please let us know! This organization is entirely run by a handful of volunteers, so we can't do it all and welcome your input and help! Give to the UW Alumni Philadelphia Chapter Scholarship Fund. All funds collected, up to $8,000, will be matched by the UW Foundation. All proceeds will go to deserving local students attending UW-Madison.

Where to Donate Alumni may donate to these funds at anytime through the UW Foundation website (see below) or by sending a check made out to the UW Foundation with "Philadelphia Alumni Matching Scholarship" in the memo section to University of Wisconsin Foundation, US Bank Lockbox, PO Box 78807, Milwaukee, WI 53278-0807.

UW Foundation Telefund Additionally, alumni may request that their annual gift given through the UWF telefund, the student calling program, go to the Philadelphia Chapter's Alumni Matching Scholarship Fund.

Employer Matching Gifts If the gift is matched by the alums employer, the UW Foundation will match the alums gift and its accompanying employer matching gift. This means a $100 gift can result in a $400 gift! ($100 gift + $100 Employer Match = $200. The UW Foundation then matches the $200 bringing it to $400.)

Congratulations Alumni of Philadelphia! On October 26, 2007, it was announced at the Fall Forum of Chapter Leaders that the Philadelphia Chapter was awarded Bascom Level status. This is the highest honor at the Chapter Level. Philadelphia joins 15 of the 100 other chapters in this honor, including New York, Boston, Washington DC, and Brown County (WI).

To achieve this honor, chapters must hold a number of events across a broad spectrum including a Founders' Day, a volunteer event, and a lifelong learning event, to name a few. Additionally, a chapter must encourage and work with current students at the UW. Philadelphia does this by raising funds for a scholarship (two awarded this year), representing Wisconsin at college fairs, and also participating in the Badger Career Network.
