The Wisconsin Alumni Association-France invites you to an evening of
discussion and cocktails with Amanda Purtell (’04):
History has led to vast inequalities, leaving almost three-fourths of the
world’s people living in less-developed countries and one-fifth below the
poverty line. The long-term impact of past industrialization, exploitation
and environmental damage cannot be wished away. It is only right that
development in this new century be even more conscious of its long-term
impact.
Ms. Purtell will be discussing issues affecting her latest mission to project
manage the construction of the
Akash Neem Medical Center in rural
Rajasthan, India, beginning November 2008.
We will be examining the need for sustainable development standards in
a globalizing world, the role of women as a target for development, the
function of small-scale development projects in livelihoods, and the
protection and management of the natural resource base in economic
and social development.
Ms. Purtell will walk us through these issues while examining their Indian
contextual relationship to her logistical and strategic objectives for the
Akash Neem Medical Center.
