The Wisconsin Alumni Association and UW-Extension Family Living Programs offers Grandparents University® each summer. This award-winning two-day workshop is a chance for children (recommended ages 7-14) and their grandparents to come together and learn from each other in a dynamic atmosphere at the UW campus. What could be more exciting than sharing stories, reliving and creating memories, and earning a degree together from UW-Madison?

    • About the Program

    Each session of the Grandparents University® program begins at 10:30 a.m. the first day with an opening program by a UW faculty member. Following lunch, participants divide into majors for an afternoon of fun and learning. The evening features a picnic and optional activities.

    The next morning, participants will continue learning within their chosen majors. Lunch will be followed by a graduation celebration and ceremony featuring "deans" from each of the majors, who handed out diplomas at the program's conclusion.

    Over the course of two days, participants will:
    • Share hands-on learning activities
    • Attend a tailgate party and take part in evening recreation
    • Stay in one of the university dormitories
    • Earn a "degree" in one of the offered majors
    • Enjoy time together

    Fees

    The fees for Grandparents University® 2008 were $145 per grandparent and $85 per grandchild. That included all major activities, materials, transportation, a program T-shirt and the Thursday night picnic.

    On-campus Lodging and Meals may be added for an additional $55 each for grandparents and $42 each for grandchildren.

    You may also choose to make your own lodging arrangements and purchase a Meals-Only package for $27 for grandparents and $22 for grandchildren.

    Lodging and Meals

    Lodging was available in the new Ogg Hall, a university residence hall, for an additional fee. Meals are included with the room cost. Meals may also be purchased separately as a package. Individual meal tickets will be available for purchase at program check-in.

    Alternate lodging is available at the nearby Lowell Hall Conference Center, and the Doubletree Hotel, but does not include the meal package. You can purchase meals separately.
