WAA: Valley of the Sun Chapter Fifth Quarter Social

Join us for an upbeat community gathering to celebrate our shared Badger spirit! Build connections with local alumni as you experience a lively presentation and Q & A session with fellow Badger Corey Pompey, associate director of bands at UW–Madison, who will discuss his experiences leading the famed UW–Marching Band.

The cost is $35 per person or $30 for recent graduates. This will include a taco bar buffet catered by our local Badger hangout, Loco Patron. A cash bar will be available serving wine, beer, and two signature cocktails: brandy old fashioneds and margaritas!

Leading the Band

Dr. Pompey will talk about his experiences leading the famed UW–Marching Band, as well as what it is like to succeed the legendary Mike Leckrone. He will give an inside look into the beloved organization that has been sharing music with the people of Wisconsin since 1885.

About the Speaker

Corey Pompey, PhD was appointed associate director of bands at UW–Madison in the spring of 2019, succeeding longtime director Mike Leckrone. Before coming to Wisconsin, Dr. Pompey was assistant professor of music and associate director of bands/director of athletic bands at the University of Nevada-Reno. Previously, he served as the assistant director of bands at Pennsylvania State University. He also served as an assistant instructor with University Bands at the University of Texas at Austin. He was involved in all creative and administrative aspects of the program, some of which include the University of Texas Wind Ensemble and the Longhorn Band. Dr. Pompey taught in the public schools of Alabama for seven years prior to moving to Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in music education and a Master of Arts degree in music education from the University of Alabama. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in wind conducting at the University of Texas.

The entrance to the Scottsdale Waterfront Free Public Parking Lot can be found on the corner of Marshall Way and Via Soleri. There are reserved parking spaces for the Ziegler Fiesta Bowl Museum on level P2.

When you register, please inform us of any dietary restrictions you may have or physical accommodations you may require, such as captions, interpreting services, or other needs.

The WAA: Valley of the Sun Chapter will hold this event in accordance with all local public health guidance. Mask usage is welcome but not required. Participants who are sick are asked to stay home to help keep our Badger community safe and healthy. If conditions require a change to this event, you will be notified via email or phone call.
