With the gift of Alumni Park, the Wisconsin Alumni Association is uniting alumni to complete a decades-old UW goal: creating an east-campus gateway worthy of a world-class university. This gift from UW-Madison’s graduates to their alma mater is turning a poorly utilized parking lot into a green space that will foster social activity and celebrate the positive impact that the university has made around the world.
With assistance from campus and the state of Wisconsin, we’ve already seen the restoration of 787 feet of Lake Mendota’s shoreline between Lake Street and the Union Terrace, and the new Goodspeed Family Pier includes docking for up to 25 craft.
When the next phase of construction is complete, Alumni Park will create a corridor that runs between the Red Gym and Memorial Union, from Lake Mendota to Langdon Street. It will join with the Memorial Union Reinvestment project to extend the social scene of the Lake Mendota waterfront, create a promenade along the east end of the lakeshore, incorporate a green space and give UW students and alumni a new, beautiful area where they can enjoy their own Wisconsin experience.
WAA is proud to partner with project architects Uihlein Wilson Architects; landscape architects SmithGroupJJR, and world-renowned exhibit design and storytelling firm Ralph Appelbaum Associates toward the completion of the Alumni Park vision.
