Sons of Kemet

Driven by a pulsing drumline, the Sons of Kemet’s energetic layers of saxophone and tuba create a brass band-like jazz experience. The group is based in the British jazz scene, but their music portrays a deeper exploration of African-Caribbean roots, while their name nods to Egyptian culture. Despite the dance-inducing and upbeat nature of their sound, they are also unafraid to tackle difficult societal themes through their music. Chance ensemble explores the connections between wilderness experiences and alternative chamber music through setting select text from John Muir to music. Muir, “Father of the National Parks” and known for his conservation advocacy, inspires Chance to create a philosophical landscape by combining his writings with their musical interpretations of his adventures in nature. Vocal ensemble Cantus explores the struggle of humans and communities to find meaningful connection in our increasingly digital world in Alone Together. Alone Together is an introspective narrative on the struggle of humans and communities to find meaningful connection in our increasingly digital world. Vocal ensemble Cantus explores these challenges through pairing selected works of Beethoven and Bernstein with contemporary composers Jennifer Higdon, David Lang and Gabriel Kahane, as well as arrangements of music by Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles and Dave Matthews. Alone Together also features a brand new, multi-movement work by Libby Larsen.See more >
