Letter to the Governor

Dear Governor Evers,

We all know that the UW changes lives. As employers and community leaders, we also know firsthand the importance of investing in higher education for the success of the Wisconsin economy. We write today to encourage you to make higher education a priority in the 2019–21 budget.

The University of Wisconsin System has submitted its budget request for the next biennium. This budget will allow UW–Madison to produce more graduates in nursing, computer science, business, and engineering to meet the needs of Wisconsin businesses.

Increased state support will help keep the cost of a UW degree affordable and support innovative services and programming, including internships, undergraduate research, career planning, and community partnerships.

Critical maintenance and campus building projects can go forward under the UW System capital budget request, including the UW School of Veterinary Medicine update and expansion.

Last, the Board of Regents will submit a pay plan request for all faculty and staff, and we encourage you to support it so UW–Madison can continue investing in the faculty and staff who educate our students, attract research dollars to Wisconsin, and provide essential services on our campus.

We ask for your strong support of higher education in your 2019–21 executive budget proposal. Thank you for your consideration.

Alumni, friends, and volunteer leaders of UW–Madison
