As a public university, UW-Madison relies on state funding and is greatly impacted by Wisconsin’s legislative process. We have a strong history of state support, but that support is shifting and no longer guaranteed. Our main asks of the state are the following:
- State funding increase of 3.5 percent in each of the next two years, providing $95.7 million to cover inflationary expenses and a number of key initiatives, including increased investment to expand educational opportunities in the state and in student support and research.
- A new College of Engineering building ($100 million in state-supported bonding) that will allow the college to increase the number of students it can educate in high-demand STEM fields.
- A new academic building for the College of Letters & Science ($64 million in state-supported bonding) to improve teaching and learning for all UW students.
Your legislators need to hear from you in support of the university. Let them know the impact of UW-Madison!
