About the Program

Enjoy a special presentation:

The Vanguard of Social Consciousness

  • Faisal Abdu’Allah, PhD — associate professor of art and faculty director of The Studio at UW–Madison

Dr. Abdu’Allah is an internationally acclaimed visual artist and barber who creates iconographic imagery of power, race, masculinity, violence, and faith to challenge the values and ideologies attached to those images. Abdu’Allah will discuss how his arrival in Madison signaled transformation in his life and how his work has evolved in this new political and social environment.

Originally from London, Abdu’Allah received his bachelor of fine arts degree from Central Saint Martins, a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art, and a PhD from the University of East London. He currently resides in the U.S. and teaches at UW–Madison in the printmaking program, which has been rated number one in the country by U.S. News & World Report. Abdu’Allah’s work will be featured in African Cosmologies, curated by Mark Sealy MBE.
