Marta Jewson receives New Orleans Press Club’s highest writing honor

Education reporter Marta Jewson won first-place in the New Orleans Press Club’s investigative category for her stories about how a local charter school board sidestepped the state’s Open Meetings Law during a teachers’ union drive. For her entry, she also won the coveted Alex Waller Memorial Award for best overall writing. Jewson writes for The Lens, New Orleans’ first non-profit newsroom.

Retrospective Art Exhibit: Bob O’Meara

Robert O’Meara, Journalism ’48, worked for the Associated Press as a writer, reporter and editor for 39 years, but also pursued art as his second career. At 94, he is having a retrospective of his artwork at the Milwaukee Catholic Home Residence, 2462 N. Prospect Avenue, Milwaukee, where he now lives. Exhibit is on display from June 22 to July 14, 2017.

George Richard, ’47, editor of the Wisconsin Alumnus magazine 1951-1959, died February 16, 2017

George Mairet Richard died February 16, 2017, one month shy of his 94th birthday. He finished his studies in journalism at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and graduated in 1947.

Wisconsin Alums married for 80 years: Marcia and Arthur Jacobs

Marcia Fox ’38 and Arthur Jacobs ’34, MA’35 met at the University of Wisconsin and married in 1937. To this day they watch Wisconsin football and wear Wisconsin hats. This summer, at the age of 100 and 104 they may be the oldest living married Wisconsin alumni.
