Peter Cameron ’05 launches journalism nonprofit investigating Wisconsin government

Peter Cameron, a 2005 graduate of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and veteran of the Daily Cardinal, has launched a reader-supported journalism nonprofit called THE BADGER PROJECT which investigates Wisconsin state government.

Before launching THE BADGER PROJECT, Cameron spent a decade in print journalism, working full-time in Scranton, PA and freelancing for the Wisconsin State Journal and Chicago Tribune. In those newsrooms, he experienced firsthand how little time he and the other journalists had to do vital but time-intensive investigative reporting on local politics and the money flooding in.

Everyone knows newspapers continue to shrink. That means less investigative reporting in politics, especially at the incredibly important but less prominent state level. THE BADGER PROJECT is trying to fill some of that gap.

THE BADGER PROJECT is experimenting with an advertisement-free, nonprofit model that seeks funding from citizen donations, grants and selling stories to newspapers in order to pay its employees and expenses.
