’73 Badger Dave Lokanc Passed Away Peacefully: Michael David (Dave) Lokanc

On September 19, 2018 Dave Lokanc passed away peacefully in his sleep in San Diego, California at the age of 67.

Born to a coach/AD (Al Lokanc) and a school teacher (Gerry Lokanc) in Rock Springs, Wyoming, he grew up alongside his brother (Larry Lokanc) in a well-respected, unassuming, loving household in suburban Chicago. Dave showed incredible athletic talent at an early age, and quickly earned the attention of the collegiate football community.

Dave was a loyal Badger with an incredible football career that spanned from 1969-1972. Even today, he holds the record for Most Tackles in a Season with 181 tackles (1972). As Co-Captain, he led his team with unwavering humility and quiet confidence – two traits that he carried with him throughout his life.

Upon becoming a father to three children, Tara, Ali and Kyle, Dave devoted the entirety of his life providing for, loving and supporting his kids. His gentle demeanor and selfless kindness had a strong impact on each of their spouses as well, Cam Shick, Russell Allen, and Amber Lokanc, respectively. To his last day, Dave’s pride and joy were his grandchildren: Parker, Levi, Addy, Nora, and Colton.

Though Dave will be missed beyond words, it’s comforting to know that he’s where he belongs and where he knew he’d someday be, as a Spirit in the Sky. We love you, sweet Bapa, and always will.
