fivebyfive awarded Chamber Music America Commissioning Grant, with UW-Madison alum Laura Lentz, flutist

Rochester-based chamber music ensemble fivebyfive has just been awarded one of only fifteen grants distributed nationwide by the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program.

Being recognized through this highly competitive national process from the nearly 200 projects considered is another step up for this artist-led chamber ensemble that has been described as a “Rochester success story…for its excellence and its imagination” (David Raymond, CITY Newspaper).

This prestigious grant will enable fivebyfive to commission a new piece of music for their instrumentation (flute, clarinet, electric guitar, double bass, and piano) plus electric harp from Minneapolis-based composer and harpist Amy Nam, who writes and performs music characterized by her sense of optimism and interest in unconventional sounds and structures.
