Keith Williams ’81 wins Concordia University’s prestigious Poehler lectureship
Keith Williams ’81 Professor at Concordia University, St. Paul, MN has been awarded the 2020 Poehler lectureship. Speakers are selected based on excellence in their academic discipline and maturity in their Christian faith. This recognition, awarded to a senior faculty member at the University, is the highest honor given to Concordia faculty and staff. The lecture was to have been given on March 17, 2020, but has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a placeholder, a 21 minute film featuring him talking about his teaching philosophy while throwing clay is available on YouTube.
Professor Williams has had a distinguished career beginning as a high school art teacher, followed by an MFA in ceramics from the University of Iowa. Following a faculty position at Muskingum College, he joined the faculty of Concordia University 27 years ago. He has served as chair of the art department for 23 of his 27 years at the university. He has also served on the board of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts including a term as President.
In his spare time he is a church musician, choir director, and jazz performer, including singing in a vocal jazz ensemble at the University and performing with the Land O’Dixie Rented Mules Band on his vintage saxophones.
