Melanoma Research Discovery: Jerry James Miller, M.D.
I was the lead author for the first and only research paper in the world’s literature which scientifically proved the existence of ultra-late melanoma metastasis. My team’s research was published in The Journal of Cutaneous Pathology as “Genomic analysis of melanoma evolution following a 30-year disease-free interval”, 2017 Sep; 44 (9) 805-808. It demonstrates the longest lineal relationship between a primary tumor and metastasis of any solid tumor in the world. The research supports and can only be explained by the cancer stem cell theory. My research changes our understanding of melanoma and emphasizes the importance of long term surveillance for recurrence. Fox News 6 in Milwaukee recently featured my team’s discovery. I live in Kohler, WI with my wife and 5 year old son.
