Eric Obscherning (’15) promoted to Senior Consultant at C&M International in Washington, D.C.

Eric Obscherning was promoted to Senior Consultant at Crowell & Moring International, a global policy and government affairs consulting firm and an affiliate of Crowell & Moring LLP, effective January 1, 2020.

He advises pharma, biotech, and medtech companies and associations as they navigate health, regulatory, and trade policies and design strategic initiatives with governments and civil society in Asia Pacific, Africa, and Latin America. With direction from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Eric also serves as Secretariat of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Life Sciences Innovation Forum.

Eric is one of the architects of the APEC Rare Disease Network, one of the world’s largest public-private partnerships addressing barriers to rare disease diagnosis and treatment in Asia Pacific. He was the primary author of the APEC Action Plan on Rare Diseases, which APEC Health Ministers endorsed in 2018, and he advises the leadership of APEC’s work on tuberculosis, vaccines and immunization, and regulatory harmonization for medical products. Eric is also a rising thought leader on the private sector’s role in universal health coverage (UHC), having helped the innovative biopharmaceutical industry develop its positions for the United Nations High Level Meeting on UHC in 2019.

Eric participates in the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council, Washington International Trade Association, U.S. Council for International Business, and Council on Foreign Relations Young Professionals Series. His written work has been published by Harvard University Press, Oxford University Press, and Hoover Institution Press, and appears in the Journal of the American Medical Association and Global Heart. Eric received a B.S. in biology and English and a Certificate in Global Health from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and also studied precision medicine and noncommunicable diseases at the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
