Obituary: Douglas John Strand

Douglas John Strand died Saturday, April 28, 2018, at his home in Edgewood, Md., at the age of 70. Born in Madison, he was the son of the late Louis and Theodora (Thysse) Strand. Doug went to Central High School in Madison and attended college at Bethany in Mankato, MN and UW-Madison. He was generous with his time, talents, and friendship. A man who loved laughing and sharing his viewpoints with others, Doug was an enthusiastic lover of chess, softball, pool, bowling, dancing, and above all books. He was a Materials Engineer at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland until his retirement in 2015, and was the president of the Sunrise Home Owners Association in Edgewood, Md. He was also a five-time distinguished Toast Master, and a district governor of his local Toast Master’s chapter. A faithful member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, he taught Sunday school and served on the Church Council with passion. He is survived by his daughters, Jeannine Strand Marquez of Hopkins, MN, and Julie Strand of Minneapolis, MN; brother, Robert Strand of Madison; his grandchildren, Elijah and Adeline Marquez; and countless friends who will miss his wit and smile.
