Andrew Abrams returns to Madison as Artistic Director of new professional musical theatre company, Capital City Theatre

Madison Native, Andrew Abrams, returns to town after many years working professionally in musical theatre in New York City. Andrew got his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from UW-Madison in 1994 and his Master of Arts in Musical Theater Writing from the University of London-Goldsmiths in 2012. Andrew is a Co-Founder of Capital City Theatre, the new professional regional musical theatre company in Madison which was founded in 2014. He just re-located full-time to Madison in February of 2017 to focus his full attention on Capital City Theatre. Bringing in professional (sometimes Broadway) talent from NYC, Chicago and all over the country as well as hiring locally in Madison, Capital City Theatre’s mission is to raise the bar for musical theatre, produce a mix of artistically challenging and classic works, and to create a space that both invites and nurtures great talent. In addition, Capital City Theatre provides a midwest premier, elite musical theatre training program. Our top-level instruction, bridges the gap between youth and adult skillsets, and primes those individuals who are looking to take the next step and build a professional musical theatre career.

Andrew has worked Off-Broadway, regionally and on tour as a professional director, musical director, conductor, composer and Equity actor. Off-Broadway: Pirates of Penzance(New York Gilbert and Sullivan Players). Tours: Cinderella (with Eartha Kitt), State Fair (with John Davidson) and many more. He is also a graduate of the advanced year of the BMI Musical Theatre Writing Workshop in New York City where he wrote “But I’m a Cheerleader, the Musical” which had a reading in London in December, 2013 directed by Tony-Award winner Jerry Mitchell. Andrew has also worked as a vocal coach, voice teacher, and Acting through Song coach at NYU, New York Film Academy, AMDA, Mountview Academy (in London), Hofstra University and privately in New York in Madison.
