A memory of Irving Shain: Thomas M. Anger

I would like to offer a story of a simple decision by then vice-chairman of chemistry, the late Dr. Irving Shain.
He found a job for me when I had financial problems which allowed me to continue with my Masters degree at UW. I graduated with that degree in 1968. That allowed me to enter a Navy program, the Medical Service Corps, a diverse group of officers whose mission is the support of Navy Hospitals. I served as head of clinical chemistry at a Navy hospital and because of that exposure to medicine I went on to medical school and became a pediatrician. All because Dr. Shain listened and went out of his way to help a student.

Thomas M. Anger, MD. UW 1968.
