Director of Marketing and Membership

Job Purpose: To oversee all strategic and operational aspects of WAA’s membership program, and to provide outstanding client service and marketing expertise for WAA initiatives and various campus partners.

Organizational Relationship: This position is supervised by the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and supervises the Membership Assistant.

Specific Functions and Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement the annual membership budget, a major part of WAA’s corporate budget and the membership marketing plan.
• Exceed the membership enrollment and annual revenue goals.
• Oversee creative development, production and mailing of all membership acquisition, renewal and reactivation efforts.
• Develop, maintain and manage fulfillment on member services.
• Work with WAA programmers and event planners to create special membership offers.
• Serve as primary client on The Badger Insider Magazine (four issues annually).
• Supervise membership assistant on all aspects of client service, data integrity, marketing and collateral management.
• Monitor results of membership marketing and provide analysis as appropriate.
• Develop strategies to increase sustaining member contributions.
• Use Membership Committee of the Board of Directors for brainstorming and guidance.

• Develop project budgets and manage projects to financial plan. Identify target audiences and develop segmented list criteria for marketing communications.
• Coordinate WAA and vendor resources to plan and implement projects. Communicate project requirements, priorities and schedules to all involved parties.
• Monitor all aspects of project for quality control.
• Ensure that all marketing materials reflect the WAA/UW-Madison brand.

• A bachelor’s degree, a passion for UW-Madison and a strong knowledge about the university.
• Three to five years experience managing teams and projects in a fast-paced, multifaceted organization.
• Knowledge of marketing strategies, brand value, direct mail and marketing collateral production.
• Extensive background in direct mail and marketing management
• Thorough understanding of membership acquisition, retention and reactivation strategies.
• Extensive background in client service.
• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Ability to organize a variety of projects and priorities.
• Experience developing and nurturing effective relationships internally and externally.
• Experience leading and influencing groups of people to support a common vision.
• Ability to consult both internally and externally to customers at a variety of marketing skill levels on marketing and marketing trends.
• Ability and interest in staying current on the direct mail and marketing industry.
• Ability to facilitate meetings with internal and external customers.
• Experience in development and management of complex budgets, with multiple sources of revenue and interrelated expense accounts.
• Excellent customer services skills.
• Knowledge of all forms of standard marketing.
• Familiarity with a relational database structure and reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail clients and database systems. Ability to learn new applications as required.
• Some weekend hours are required.
