Why should your group, student organization or school/college sell The Red Shirt? It’s simple, when participating in The Red Shirt program you’ll be carrying on the tradition of giving back by funding valuable WAA scholarships and programs while also raising money for your organization.
What is The Red Shirt?

Specially designed each year, The Red Shirt was developed to help fund scholarships and programming provided by the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA). Proceeds from the sales of these shirts contribute to the more than $550,000 already given by WAA every year through its scholarship programs. With the need for financial aid higher than ever, The Red Shirt becomes another way for WAA to give back to the UW community.
This year's design celebrates the 100th anniversary of "On, Wisconsin." In 1909, W.T. Purdy composed the melody and former UW student, Carl Beck, supplied the lyrics. The UW Band first performed the song on November 13, 1909 .. and it's been entertaining Badger fans ever since. In fact, it's now considered one of the country's most popular school songs.
What this means for you:
- A return of $4 for each shirt sold – that’s money for your group!
- NO Risk. WAA will not make your group commit to buying any apparel with money you don’t necessarily have to spend.
