 Century Celebration and Reunion WeekendThe weekend of June 23rd was a big one for the UW School of Veterinary Medicine. Veterinary Science and Comparative Biomedical Sciences alumni gathered on Thursday and Friday for the Century Celebration. Speakers from the school’s past, present, and future shared their experiences of the school’s vast history and remarkable faculty. On Saturday, over 200 of the school’s alumni and their families attended the reunion picnic, reminiscing over brats, beer, and Babcock ice cream and catching up with faculty and staff.The school also played host to an infectious disease symposium on Saturday, highlighting the progress made at the SVM over the years and giving a window into the future of that impressive research. Over 40 distinguished speakers presented on everything from arboviruses to influenza. Videos of the talks will be available soon; check the SVM website and Facebook page for updates. UW Veterinary Care honored by 2012 Best of MadisonThe UW Veterinary Care Teaching Hospital was voted silver for this year’s Best of Madison veterinarian. Thank you to all of our referring veterinarians and clinics for their part in the care of these wonderful animals.

Congratulations to Patrick Warpinski, ’91, who was recently recognized as Business Person of the Year by the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce. Warpinski runs The Animal House pet clinic, a full service veterinary practice that grew from just 2 employees when it opened in 2004, to a whopping 40 employees today. Click here to read the full story. Cream of the Crop Hats off to Jean Beau, ’87, first runner up for the Best of Chicago’s Best Vet award. Beau works at the Uptown Animal Hospital in Chicago. For more information, click here. Climbing Higher The SVM would like to congratulate Lance Fox, ’95, who reached the summit of Mount Everest and has now released a book documenting his adventure. The cheese hat he wore while on the summit will be inducted into the Packer Hall of Fame this summer. For more on Fox’s story, click here.
