Teeing Up the UW Experience

In between following the shots of golf legends such as John Daly and Nick Faldo, spectators at the 2017 American Family Insurance Championship can swing by the UW–Madison Experience and Viewing Deck.

Open to golf fans, UW alumni, and Badgers of all ages, the ground-level tent and viewing deck overlooking the 15th tee at University Ridge Golf Course will showcase the University of Wisconsin–Madison from the first day of the championship on June 23 until the final round on June 25.

When entering the UW–Madison Experience tent, presented by the Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association, spectators will discover booths showcasing the soon-to-be-open Alumni Park and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences’ Department of Turfgrass and Soil Science. They’ll also feel like they’re on the Memorial Union Terrace thanks to the sunburst chairs available to sit in and take a load off.

At the Alumni Park booth, attendees can get a special virtual-reality preview of the park thanks to the Living Environments Lab at the Wisconsin Institutes of Discovery. The virtual tour will give spectators a peek “behind the fence” when they slip on a virtual-reality headset: a feel for what it will be like to visit the new campus landmark on the lake and its nearly 200 exhibits, green spaces, lake views, outdoor classroom, and more when Alumni Park opens on October 6, 2017.

The Turfgrass and Soil Science booth will offer an opportunity for spectators to learn about the intricacies of growing and maintaining pristine golf-course grasses. Then attendees can head up a flight of stairs with a greater appreciation of those finely cut blades of grass as they watch the pros tee off.

Tickets to attend the championship and visit the UW–Madison Experience and Viewing Deck are available for purchase now. Members of the Wisconsin Alumni Association can receive a special bonus: 20 percent off the total price of their ticket purchases. See the Member Benefits page for more details.
