Job Purpose:
The position’s primary purposes are to develop, design, execute and manage online content and communications projects and strategies through uwalumni.com, manage WAA’s presence in social media, and serve as a resource, liaison and manager for WAA’s content management system and future Web development. The Web Editor is part of the marketing and communications department that serves the Wisconsin Alumni Association’s internal and external communications efforts.
- Regularly develop, design and publish engaging online content, including writing, page design, HTML authoring, digital photography, audio and video. Lead production of specific Web and online projects, meeting quality standards, technical requirements, and best practices.
- Manage existing Web property and its underlying CMS; oversee site design and content development on a daily operational level.
- Serve as project manager and liaison with Web development vendor; provide back-end Web and CMS support.
- Employ widgets and other Web 2.0 tools to enhance functionality of an existing Web site.
- Manage corporate presence across multiple existing and emerging social media platforms.
- Provide analytics, usage and marketing reports on all aspects of the Web presence.
- Work with marketing and programming staff to build integrated and strategic online relationships with external audiences.
- Advise about information architecture, and effective and strategic execution of online components of marketing campaigns and corporate communications.
- Lead Web projects by communicating project requirements, priorities and schedules to all involved parties.
- Provide superior customer service to build relationships across the organization, across campus and with our alumni.
- Develop project budgets and manage projects to financial plan.
Skills, Training, and Experience Required:
- Familiarity with HTML and CSS. Experience with CMS- or database-driven sites, Photoshop, WYSIWYG editor, Flash, WordPress or MovableType, information architecture. Ability to learn new applications as required.
- Proficiency with various types of social media. Curiosity about and experience with Web 2.0 tools, strategies and tactics.
- Experience with writing, editing and proofreading for the Web; graphic creation/optimization for online media and photography are a plus.
- Ability to consult internally and externally with a variety of Web expertise and explain the how’s and why’s of Web strategies and tactics.
- Project management and problem solving expertise with attention to detail and sensitivity to deadlines.
- Minimum three to five years experience with online content creation, Web site editing or production in a fast-paced, multifaceted organization. A bachelor’s degree, a passion for UW-Madison and a strong knowledge about the university.
