Marketing and Communications Specialist

This position supports Marketing and Communications staff by managing projects in various marketing, membership and communications departments. A successful candidate will be detail-oriented and have the ability to efficiently manage time and projects, articulate clearly, be creative and be personable.

Works within the Marketing and Communications department and is a member of various WAA marketing and project teams.

Supervised by: Director of Marketing

• Support Vice President of Marketing and Marketing Directors
• Manage and coordinate marketing campaigns/projects, from planning and execution to reporting results. This includes development, production and delivery of marketing collateral.
• Foster a team atmosphere and be a liaison between marketing manager, creative team and project leader.
• Develop creative briefs and communicate key project details to design and production teams in a timely manner.
• Proactively, rapidly and intuitively identify project issues and translate them into insights for solutions.
• Effectively communicate the “big picture” objectives and strategy, and identify how day-to-day work contributes to the larger whole.
• Schedule and facilitate meetings with clients and creative team.
• Identify target audiences and develop segmented list criteria for marketing communications.
• Monitor all aspects of projects for quality control and ensure that all marketing materials reflect the WAA/UW brand.
• Coordinate marketing intern’s day-to-day projects and schedule.
• Research and report current marketing industry trends.
• Assist with administrative duties as needed.

• A bachelor’s degree, with a passion for UW-Madison and a strong knowledge about the university.
• One to three years of work experience in marketing and/or project management.
• Knowledge of marketing best practices, branding, direct mail and marketing collateral production.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database systems. Ability to learn new applications as required.
• Strong organizational, office and business skills.
• Team-oriented, problem-solver and customer-focused.
• Some after-work and weekend hours are required.
