The panelists were:
- Mike Wood, who leads GE Healthcare’s university research collaborations for the magnetic resonance business.
- Jerry Shattuck, licensing manager for medical imaging technologies at the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, which is the UW-Madison’s private, non-profit patenting and licensing affiliate.
- Dr. Charles Mistretta, a professor of biomedical engineering, medical physics and radiology at the UW-Madison and a pioneer in magnetic resonance technology.
The panelists highlighted existing and emerging areas of collaboration and offered suggestions on how other industries could better access university-based research and development.
“As part of our continuing ‘Wisconsin Edge’ series, we’re highlighting those very real examples where university-based R&D is leading to industry collaborations – and direct economic benefit for Wisconsin and its workers,” said Tom Still, president of the Tech Council and WIN.
The Tech Council recently released a report on “The Economic Value of Academic Research and Development in Wisconsin,” which charted $1.1 billion in economic activity in that sector.
