Financial Independence gives you the tools needed to ride out today’s economic roller coaster. Whether you’re a first-year student or a recent grad, this seminar is for you. It strives to bring unbiased financial advice to students who many not receive this knowledge from class. Plus, you can pick and choose the sessions you want to attend — staying for half the seminar or the whole thing.

The noon portion is a lecture for financial novices and those wanting a refresher on the basics. The late afternoon lecture is a more advanced look at your money matters — while the breakout sessions run the gamut. And the seminar featured keynote speaker, financial expert and UW School of Business lecturer Ron Smith ’65, MS’71 throughout.

Your degree is forever. Your loans shouldn’t be — Managing your student loans and other debts. Find out if you should pay off your student loans quickly or consolidate your loans. And determine which loans you should pay off first, and where, when and how you should borrow.
Econ 101 - What the heck is going on? — What is really going on in the economy today and how does it affect you? Should you be investing right now or should you keep your money under your mattress? Find out how you can benefit from the unrest in the economy.
‘Til Death Do Us Part?—For those pre-engaged, engaged, or married, this session will give financial tips to couples who are living together and how to manage finances as a couples.
Government, Education, and other Not-For-Profits—The session that defines the different organizations and explains how your benefits and opportunities differ.
