A fashionable way to give back
The Red Shirt™ was developed to help fund scholarships and programming provided by the Wisconsin Alumni Association. Proceeds from the sales of these shirts contribute to the more than $550,000 already given by WAA every year through its scholarship programs. Additionally, in alignment with UW-Madison's priority to increase need-based financial aid, a portion of the sales proceeds will help to fund the
UW Foundation's Great People Scholarship Campaign.
About “On, Wisconsin”
In 1909, W.T. Purdy composed the melody and former UW student, Carl Beck, supplied the lyrics to what’s now considered one of the country’s most popular school songs. And on November 13, 1909, the UW Band first performed the song. So it’s only natural for The Red Shirt™, a symbol of UW unity, to honor “On, Wisconsin” — a song that’s been unifying Badgers for 100 years. Additional history including photos, composer biographies, recordings and more can be found on the
UW–Madison Libraries' Web site featuring all things "On, Wisconsin."
Sponsored by WAA for the students and alumni of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
