Allen Centennial Gardens

Keeping It Local: UW Diners Benefit from Homegrown Veggies

This summer, campus diners at Frank’s Place are feasting on fresh greens, carrots, beets and onions grown just a block away in Allen Centennial Gardens. The vegetables are growing in a traditional “kitchen garden,” common in late 19th century Wisconsin, as part of a local-food initiative at UW-Madison.

Monkey See, Monkey Do: Consuming Fewer Calories Leads to a Healthier Life

A nutritious, reduced-calorie diet blunts aging and significantly delays the onset of age-related disorders such as cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease in Rhesus monkeys, report UW researchers who collaborated on a 20-year study at the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center.

Family health care needs are being better met in rural Wisconsin, thanks to a new federally funded grant awarded to the UW-Madison Physician Assistant Program at the School of Medicine and Public Health.
