So, we went to Sean’s concert Friday night, fully expecting to see him sitting in the audience with a friend… but instead, when the choir filed out onto the risers, there he was in his tuxedo! And he wasn’t coughing! And he didn’t cough at all until the end, after he’d been singing for a long time! It was a minor miracle.
Afterward, in the lobby, we hoped to meet the new friend, but she left before we could meet her. And, Sean was originally planning to come home with us to get some sleep and to run an errand close to home on Saturday, but his Saturday schedule had changed, so he delayed the homecoming until Saturday night. When Saturday night came (12:15am on Sunday, actually), he called that off, too.
But, this afternoon, while he was out on his bike running his errand, he stopped home just out of the blue. Alex and Claire weren’t home, so Sean and I had a little chat by ourselves. I got caught up on the new friend, the internship he’s hoping to snare, his finals schedule, and when we should go to pick up the rest of his stuff. He had a brief nap, and then I took him and his bike (which he’d wiped out on yesterday on State Street) back to Chad.
Not long ago, his coming home — for the summer, I mean — seemed so imminent, and now the closer it gets, the further off it seems. Weird.
Oh — he’s coughing a little but is so much better than he was just a few days ago. Funny how things seem so critical at one point and then just fade and are replaced — or not — by something else. Also weird.
