Go to school, will ya?

I heard from a friend whose daughter will be back from her college this coming Sunday. That’s six days from now! While I’m sure he’s thrilled to have her back home, he said he kind of wishes he was getting a little more education for his tuition payments, and I see his point.
I always think that college kids should go to school, well, longer. Heavens — some have fall breaks (but not the UW), and most have long winter breaks, and then there’s spring break, and then there’s what seems like a freakishly long summer when they get out at the beginning of May. I even think that the UW should be in session longer, but strangely, no one in a decision-making position has asked my opinion about that.
We love having our kids around, but sheesh. Wouldn’t it be nice if the working year could be so full of breaks?
